WORK OPPORTUNITIES

1. Legal Assistant Posts

The Commission usually takes on each Autumn a small number of law graduates for fixed-term appointments of one year initially, with the possibility of extension for a further year, to work as legal assistants on our current law reform projects. For more details of the work involved, see the guide to life as a legal assistant.

Please note that applications for 2008 are now closed.

The next recruitment campaign for legal assistants will take place early in 2009. Details of the posts available will be put on the website and applications will be invited from those who have obtained or expect to obtain during 2009 a First or Upper Second Class Honours Degree in Scots Law or any other similar academic qualification that provides evidence of relevant knowledge and understanding of Scots law. Applications from other suitably qualified candidates who have relevant experience may exceptionally be considered.

2. Work Experience Placements

We also offer a limited number of short (unpaid) placements to 3rd and 4th year law students and to those studying for the accelerated LLB or the Diploma in Legal Practice. Please note that applications for 2008 are now closed. Details of placements available next year will appear on the website early in 2009.

Equal Opportunities

The Scottish Law Commission and Scottish Government are committed to equality of opportunity of employment for all, on the basis of ability, qualifications and fitness for work.  Applications are invited from all those who are, or expect to be qualified and eligible irrespective of race, age, gender, marital status, disability, religion or belief or sexual orientation.
