Law reform projects

The Commission is currently in our Eleventh Programme of Law Reform running from 2023 to the end of 2027

This page lists our current law reform projects. For details of recently completed projects on Automated Vehicles and Surrogacy see the Completed Projects page.

Most of our work is carried out under the authority of the Eleventh Programme of Law Reform or a reference from the Scottish Ministers or UK Ministers under section 3(1)(e) of the Law Commissions Act 1965. Joint projects with the Law Commission for England and Wales are also listed.

The Commission applies management planning to each project, including timetabling. A short-term project has a target date for completion well within the life of the current Programme. We intend to complete our medium-term projects by the end of the Programme.

The details for each project contain information about the Commissioner and team members working on that project. If you would like to contact the team working on a project please do so through the appropriate project manager.

We also have an archive of projects completed in recent years:

These include ones on moveable transactions, trusts, and judicial factors on which there has recently been, or is currently legislation in the Scottish Parliament.  They also include the joint project on automated vehicles on which a bill has recently been introduced in Westminster.
