Scottish Law Commission welcomes further land law reform

29 Jun 2012

The Scottish Parliament yesterday passed the Long Leases (Scotland) Bill.  The Bill, which is based on the recommendations in our Report on Conversion of Long Leases, provides that certain 'ultra-long' leases (i.e. leases of over 175 years) be converted into ownership.  It is expected that the legislation will come fully into force on 28 November 2015.

This is the second land law Bill to be passed by the Scottish Parliament within the last month based on recommendations in a Scottish Law Commission report.  The Land Registration etc (Scotland) Bill, which was based on the recommendations in our Report on Land Registration, was passed on 31 May 2012.
