Background
Lord Sandison was appointed Chair of the Commission from 5 May 2026. He was appointed a Senator of the College of Justice in 2021 and will continue with his judicial functions 50% of the time.
Lord Sandison became an advocate in 1996 and appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2009. He practised primarily in commercial law for 25 years before his appointment as a Senator of the College of Justice. Since then, he has presided over a wide range of cases, including serving for the past three years as a judge in the Commercial Court. His academic background in law, includes holding a doctorate in jurisprudence from the University of Cambridge
